Born in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, Kaduna State, Shuaibu Idris started his early education and later gained admission into the Government Secondary School Birnin Gwari where he obtained his GCE ‘O’ Level Certificate.

He completed the Secondary School education in June 1981 and by August of the same year joined School of General Studies, Bayero University Kano for his ‘A’ Level Certificate ie pre-degree programme.

By 1982 Shuaibu Idris gained admission to read a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from the prestigious Bayero University, Kano. He completed the degree programme in 1985 and proceeded to Rivers State, Nigeria for the mandatory National Service. He spent one year with National Oil and Chemicals Marketing Company, now Conoil, as Customer Accounts Officer.

Shuaibu Idris started his working career with Kaduna State Board of Internal Revenue as an Inspector of Taxes in May 1986, by January 1987 Shuaibu Idris was recruited by the famous Chase Merchant Bank Nigeria as an Analyst and thus joined the bank in its Lagos Headquarters office.

While with the bank, he worked in various departments such as Operations, (handling documentations) Credit/Lending, Treasury, Corporate Finance, Investment Banking and Financial Advisory Services.

He secured a British Council Scholarship to pursue a Masters Degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Wales, United Kingdom in 1992. He left the bank in 1996 as Head of Financial Advisory Services team to join Lakeside Investment Limited as the Company’s pioneer Deputy Chief Executive Officer.

In 1998, he left Lakeside Investment to teamed up with other like minds professionals to set up Time-line Consult Limited and became the first Managing Consultant. In early 2000, upon pressure from a group of professional colleagues saddled with turnaround responsibility of an ailing Liberty Bank Plc., Shuaibu Idris joined the bank as Assistant General Manager in Charge of Public Sector (Deposit Mobilization) and Northern Operations of the bank.

In September 2002, Shuaibu Idris left the bank to join the famous Dangote Group as Group General Manager in charge of Human Resources, Administration, Corporate Affairs and Environment. While with the Group, he served as Group Treasurer, Special Assistant to the Group Vice President, Executive Director; Sales and Marketing (Flour), And Deputy Managing Director/COO Flour Milling Group.

Shuaibu resigned his appointment in December 2010 to pursue his political ambition in his home state of Kaduna.

While working with these organisations he attended several workshops, seminars, courses, and trainings which include Islamic Development Bank/Loughborough University, U.K. International Conference on Islamic Economics, Banking & Finance, and several Annual Conferences organized by the Centre of Islamic Banking and Economics, London. He is an Alumnus of Harvard Business School, Lagos Business School, Judge Business School of University of Cambridge to mention but a few.

Shuaibu Idris is married with children and has travelled to quite a number of countries such as Saudi Arabia, U.S.A., U.K., Singapore, Malaysia, China, Germany, France, India, Pakistan, South Africa, and Kenya to mention but a few.

Shuaibu is a motivational speaker, a mentor to many and a regular commentator on financial, economic and political issues in local and international print and electronic media.

Shuaibu Idris has nurtured and established of a number of Non-Governmental Organisations such as Care Organisation Public Enlightenment (Breast Cancer NGO), Birnin Gwari Educational Endowment Fund- BEEF, Teens Empowerment and Salvage Initiative-TESI etc.

He is the Chairman Board of Governors, IoD Centre for Corporate Governance, one time Treasurer and Member of Governing Council of Institute of Directors Nigeria (IoD), Member of Board of Trustees, Investors Protection Fund of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Member Regulatory & Compliance as well as Electoral Committees of the Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN). Mr. Idris is also a member of the Board of Directors of quite a number of companies amongst which include Consolidated Hallmark Insurance Company Plc., Capital Trust Investments & Asset Management Limited, Coronation BDC Limited, WACOT Limited, and Aims Media Limited amongst others. He was also one time Council Member of Kaduna State University.

Shuaibu Idris mni is a member of the Prestigious National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPPS as well as fellow of a number of Professional Associations  including Fellow (FIoD) Institute of Directors, Fellow(FCNA) Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, Fellow (FNIMN) National Institute of Marketing Nigeria, , Fellow (FICA) Institute of Credit Administration, Fellow (ACIPM) Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, Member – Nigerian Economic Summit Group , Associate Member (ACIM) Chartered Institute of Management (UK), Associate Member (APRSA) Public Relations Society of America, Fellow (FCMI) Cost Management Institute (Nigeria)Fellow (FNIM) Nigerian Institute of Management.
